Charlie Getz Biography
Charlie Getz was born in Japan where his parents were stationed as part of the Occupation Forces. This gave him a life-long love of rice and brass locomotives.
Despite a circa 1956 Lionel Train, he did not become serious about model railroading until Christmas 1961 and a Tyco General train set. Tender driven, the tender vibrated before the locomotive lurched into gear. A 5 by 9 ping-pong table layout began a string of partly-completed layouts until after college, a switch to N, then HOn3 and move to San Francisco where he worked 40 years for the California Attorney General.
A lifetime NMRA Member, Charlie served as Western VP, PCR Trustee, PCR President, BOD Director and now NMRA President. He writes a column for the Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette, builds models and has 3 certificates toward MMR. A long way to go.
He models in HO/HOn3 and dabbles in On3. His wife Margaret, far more talented, is a professional chef and hobby seamstress.
